How To Make A Salt Scrub For Combination Skin

If you have combination skin, you might struggle to find good exfoliating products since you have both oily and dry skin. Salt scrubs are great because they exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells, but also include ingredients that are great for your specific type of skin. Here is an easy salt scrub for combination skin.

Gather Your Ingredients

The first thing you need to do is decide what type of salt scrub you want to make. You can choose any type of oil base for the salt scrub, though jojoba oil is recommended for combination skin. Jojoba oil doesn't worsen oily skin, and it is gentle and nourishing enough for dry skin. Coconut oil is another good option. For the essential oils, orange, bergamot, and lavender are great for combination skin. You need the following ingredients for this salt scrub:

  • ½ cup oil
  • 10 drops essential oils
  • 1 cup fine sea salt

Be sure you use fine sea salt as it is gentler on your face and neck. Traditional sea salt is coarse and might scratch your delicate skin.

Prepare the Salt Scrub

Once you have decided what oil and essential oils you want to use, it is time to prepare the salt scrub. Get a small bowl and pour the cup of fine sea salt into the bowl. Add ½ cup of your chosen oil to the bowl and mix well with a wooden spoon. Continue mixing until you have a moist texture, but one that isn't too oily. If it feels oily, try adding more salt until you get the desired texture. If it is too dry, add a little more oil.

Once you have a good consistency, slowly add about 5-10 drops of essential oils. Remember you can use a combination of different oils for different benefits. You might want orange essential oil for the nourishing effect is has on combination skin, with a few drops of lavender due to the relaxing aromatherapy qualities.

Use the Scrub

After your salt scrub is complete, pour it into a jar with a lid. When you are ready to use it, wet your face and neck just as you would when washing it. Pour a small amount of salt scrub into the palm of your hand and rub it over your skin. Rub the scrub in small circles over your skin to gently exfoliate it. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.
